Parents Conduct

Parents Code of Ethics:

  • All children have more need for positive example than criticism.

  • I will make athletic participation for every player, coach and official a positive experience.

  • I will work to help relieve the pressure of competition, not add to it.

  • I will be positive to every child, even the opposing team, applauding their efforts, ideas and enthusiasm.

  • I will help my child learn to be a gracious winner and turn a loss into a positive experience.

  • I will be supportive and uncritical both on the sidelines and on the way home.

  • My child deserves a positive role model in the adults around them.

In addition, please follow these guidelines:

DO

  • use encouraging words to players and the referees – be a positive example of good sportsmanship
  • remember that the referees are young and in training – even older referees may be new to the position
  • keep comments positive at all times

 DON’T

  • make derogatory or negative remarks to any player, coach or referee
  • question the referee’s call or make the call for the referee (i.e. don’t yell “offside” or “that was a hand ball”)
  • speak to the referee at any time (coaches can submit evaluation forms after the games)
  • enter the field during the game – coaches are the only individuals allowed on the field during the game and only when the referee waves them on due to an injury
  • coach the players (i.e. don’t give specific instructions from the sideline – this is the responsibility of the coach)

Keep in mind these statistics:

75% of players between 10 – 14 years old quit sports*

71% of new referees within 4 years did not return to the position*

Please make soccer a POSITIVE EXPERIENCE for everyone involved
